Reading Annapurna we know that Maurice Herzog dictated it in hosptial, we are expecting the details of why he is there, and we get them in full measure. We get an account of storm and suffering, of the cruel pains of surgery and the bravery of men. It is unlike any other mountain book I know. At first reading it carried me through the night like an exciting novel of impossible daring. I admired the lightning exploration of Dhaulagiri which delayed the start of work on Annapurna. I gasped at the speed of the final action hurried through before the onconming monsoon. 'Wilfrid Noyce, a member of the successful Everest Expedition'. *Good condition - hardback edition, DJ faded with small tears, inscription inside. Spotting to pages. Reprint Society, 1954.*
