This is the story from their own pens, of women living in New Zealand during the first ten years of British settlement, 1840 to 1850. It has been compiled from letters, journals and reminiscences left by women settlers of this period, and the material used is largely from unpublished sources. Life and events of the day are seen through the eyes of a missionary's wife who had arrived in the Bay of Islands as early as 1823, of the first Governor's Lady in her 'wooden palace' beside the Waitemata when Auckand was barely a year old. * Good condition - DJ has small tears & is well spotted. University Press, 1961. *
